London Array Offshore Wind Farm Environmental Impact Assessment

end
As a proposed 1000MW development of up to 271 turbines this was a major environmental impact assessment towards which CMACS contributed marine ecological consultancy services over several years.

A major impact assessment such as this requires a substantial amount of environmental information to allow informed judgements to be made.  CMACS began baseline marine ecological surveys in 2003 and undertook a major survey campaign throughout 2004. Our studies covered subtidal and intertidal benthic ecological and fish communities and we also supported the assessment for marine mammals.  It was important that we identified the potential for presence of sensitive habitats such as ‘biogenic reef’ and thoroughly described the baseline biological environment so that impacts could be minimised

Following submission of the planning applications CMACS has also assisted the developer in discussions with key stakeholders. In particular, we have been involved in discussions on issues relating to underwater noise during wind farm construction, potential electromagnetic field effects on fish and minimisation of impacts to spawning fish.
