In
2003 a new freight terminal was constructed to allow cargo vessels to access
port facilities at North Killingholme on the Humber Estuary. The
estuary is of international importance for a number of wintering shorebird
species and to ensure that environmental issues were addressed CMACS has undertaken
a full programme of monitoring.
The monitoring programme considers the impact of the new Humber Sea Terminal
on current speed, direction and sediment loads; local intertidal sediment
ecology, including invertebrate populations; saltmarsh topography and saltmarsh
vegetation.
CMACS
will continue this monitoring after construction is complete to ensure that
our clients responsibilities towards environmental protection are met.
